Viltrox AF 9mm F2.8 XF mount Infrared Lens testing
I recently got a modified infrared X-T30 II and i’ve been testing some of my existing lens collection to see if they are compatible with infrared photography. The problem is that not all lenses are compatible with infrared modified cameras. Due to the construction of the lens, it can sometime produce a ‘hotspot’, a bright patch in the middle of the image that is not consistent with the rest of the image. At the time of writing, there didn’t seem to be any information on whether or not the lenses I tested produced these hotspots so I took it upon myself to test these out.
Viltrox AF 9mm F2.8 XF mount -
Verdict. Not Suitable. Hotspots visible past F3.2
Unfortunately the Viltrox AF 9mm f2.8 is not really suitable for Infrared photography. It shows noticeable hotspot in the centre of the image past f3.2. It’s a shame because it is otherwise a fantastic, sharp, compact lens for fuji XF bodies, and at the super wide focal length of 9mm, it is by far the cheapest most affordable lens in this focal length range.
